Information: Become a Globe Missionary

Learn How to Become a Globe Missionary.

Are you praying about a career in missions? Great! I am sure, if you are praying about serving God in a missionary career, you have been thinking about missions for a long time. Perhaps you have already made a few short term trips, and you probably have also been studying missions courses and missions books. Perhaps too, you have been serving in your local church missions department. Maybe you have a college degree in missions. All of the above is great preparation for a career in missions.

Globe has many opportunities where you can serve alongside our existing ministries and missionaries. Or, if you are ready, Globe can help send you to pioneer a new work in a new country.

You are probably asking, “What must I do first?” Let me make a few suggestions.

  1. First, get active in your local church. Serve in your church’s home and missions programs and become a servant. Gain as much ministry experience, even as a volunteer, as you can. There is no better proving ground than your home church. Develop good team and people skills. Ministry is all about people, so learn to work them, even the difficult ones. Learn to work under authority first, and then learn how to work alongside of others. Develop problem solving skills, and inter-personal conflict resolution skills. Experience is the best teacher, so get involved with people, serve them in Jesus’ name and learn! Also, be sure you maintain a solid habit of giving. Tithes and offerings are a crucial part of your learning to live by faith as a missionary, so if you aren’t tithing and giving now, you will never be able to live by faith on the field. Don’t cheat on tithing or giving!

  2. Second, if you haven’t made a short term missions trip, let me encourage you to do that soon. There is no substitute for some initial exposure to the mission field. I actually recommend you make several trips to different parts of the world, different cultures, and different kinds of ministry. If your home church is doing missions, plug in! If not, maybe you can help your pastor start a missions program. Such experiences will help you better evaluate what you are called to do and who you are called to serve.

  3. Third, if you have not done any formal study, take some bible and missions courses. Globe can recommend several quality study programs that you can do at home in your spare time. They are affordable and will minimally intrude upon your schedule, but will be a great help in the preparation process. There is no substitute for laying a good missionary foundation through a committed program of study. You will be learning about missions for the rest of your life, so get started now through disciplined study of the bible and missions, cross-cultural ministry, missions history, and missionary methods and strategy.

  4. Finally, when you are ready, give us a call!  Download or ask us to send you the Globe Intro Manual, Policy Manual, and application. Read through them and complete the forms. After you send them in, you will hear from us. Usually the application process takes 2-3 months for approval. After initial approval you will be expected to come to our headquarters in Pensacola to meet with the Globe Directors and attend a two-day Orientation. Within the first year you will also be expected to attend our one-week School of Missions, which is designed to connect you with Globe leadership and impart some missions basics.

I look forward to walking with you on your path to a long and successful career in missionary service!
